Registration Now Open for Summer Workshops
The Lam Museum is pleased to present two craft workshops this summer. Registration for both is now open. The workshops are designed for adults and children ages 10 and up. The fee for each workshop is $25 per participant ($20 for Lam Museum members). Space is limited and advanced registration is required.
On Sunday, June 7, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, we will offer an Aboriginal Dot Painting Workshop. Participants will learn about the fascinating and complex history of dot painting by the Aboriginal People of Australia. The discussion will examine the paintings’ symbolism and iconography, as well as the purposes, materials, and techniques used in these artworks. After exploring a variety of styles, participants will create their own dot painting inspired by what they’ve learned. This workshop is offered in conjunction with the exhibit Return to Sender? Aboriginal Cultural Heritage and Repatriation. Register here.
On Sunday, July 12, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, we will offer a Mandala Workshop. Participants will explore the history of mandalas and their connection to Buddhism. This engaging session will introduce different types, materials, and symbolic iconography of mandalas. It will also highlight the use of mandalas across other religious traditions. Participants will have time to practice techniques and, once comfortable, will design and create their own sand mandala. This workshop is offered in conjunction with the exhibit Seeing as Practice: Entering the World of Thangka. Register here.
