MOA Announces New Virtual Lunch & Learn Series

The Museum is excited to launch a new Virtual Lunch & Learn series this spring.  At noon on the last Thursday of the month, February through April, the Museum staff will discuss various topics relating to anthropology and museums.  Our first installment, Artifact Roadshow, on February 25, will give participants the opportunity to have an archaeological or ethnographic artifact of theirs examined via Zoom to learn more about it.  Although we cannot provide appraisals, we hope we can identify some unknown objects and solve a mystery or two.  On March 25, Academic Director Dr. Andrew Gurstelle will discuss MOA’s Pacific objects from the Ortiz Collection.  A controversial collector, the story of Ortiz’s artifacts is a dramatic example of how a collection’s history and provenance shape its interpretation.  And finally, on April 29, Dr. Gurstelle and Museum Educator Tina Smith, will lead a community discussion about genealogical DNA testing and cultural heritage.  All events in the series are free and open to the public.  However, pre-registration is required.
