Jewelry and the Embodiment of Evolution
April 13 – December 10, 2027

From glittering metals to iridescent shell, human cultures around the world have long used reflective materials to create jewelry and personal ornament. Jewelry and the Embodiment of Evolution draws from the Lam Museum’s global collection to explore why humans are drawn to shiny objects, and how this fascination with personal adornment shapes our identities. By pairing historical and ethnographic artifacts with insights from evolutionary psychology, this exhibition reveals that our desire for decoration is both a shared human instinct and a deeply personal cultural expression. Through these rarely displayed pieces, visitors will discover how everyday traditions connect them to ancient evolutionary origins and shared global practices.
