Boar's Tusk Necklace

Since the first European colonizers arrived, Melanesia, a group of Pacific islands just below the equator, has often been viewed as having a single unifying culture.  However, cultural diversity in the region is actually quite pronounced and can be seen in many aspects of Melanesian life.  This student-curated mini-exhibit focuses on exchange and trade as one way that these unique cultures are both tied together and distinct from one another.
