The Lam Museum is pleased to present two workshops this summer, each with connections to objects currently on exhibit.

A Mosaic Workshop will take place on Sunday, June 22, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. This workshop is designed for adults and children ages 8 and up. Workshop attendees will learn about the history of mosaics from ancient to modern times. The discussion will include purposes, types, materials, and techniques used to create mosaics. Drawing on mosaic traditions from around the world, each participant will design and complete their own mosaic. This workshop is offered in conjunction with the exhibit Museum of World Cultures: Highlights from the UNC-Wilmington Collection which features objects from ancient Greece and Rome. The fee is $25 per participant ($20 for Lam Museum members). Space is limited and advanced registration is required.

The Museum will offer a Chinese Calligraphy Workshop on Sunday, July 27, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. This workshop is designed for adults ages 18 and up. Artist Mona Wu will lead the workshop exploring the history of the Chinese language and the art of calligraphy. After a short discussion, participants will practice brush strokes used to create Chinese characters. Participants will have the opportunity to paint a scroll that includes images and Chinese calligraphy. This workshop is offered in conjunction with the exhibit Fragments of Changsha: Medieval China in Miniature which features Tang Dynasty ewers with inscribed Chinese characters. The fee is $25 per participant ($20 for Lam Museum members). Space is limited and advanced registration is required.

We hope you’ll be able to take advantage of these unique opportunities!
