Lecture: The Endurance of Ritual in Latin America

February 8, 6pm

In honor of our new Experiences of Colonialism in Latin America exhibit, Dr. Scotti Norman, archaeologist and Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Wake Forest, will speak at the Museum. Her talk will explore major exhibit themes of diversity of Indigenous cultures prior to Spanish contact and the experiences of (and resistance to) colonial pursuits in Spanish Americas. Specifically, this talk will consider how Indigenous ritual persisted from pre- to post-Spanish occupation, and how this ritual changed through the incorporation of and entanglement with Spanish Catholicism.

The talk will be offered in a hybrid format.  WFU students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend in person at the Museum. Members of the public will be able to attend via Zoom. Advance registration is required for virtual attendees. Click here to register. Admission is free.
